One of the main reasons for me signing up to Substack apart from getting me to finally write something. Was to be able to learn from so many wonderful writers out there, who have been doing this for years and years.
I’m still working out as to what niche I want to go in. but what I do know is that I sure do love reading fiction and thought I would be in fiction heaven when I saw there was a section dedicated to it.
Little did I know, that just because this section is called fiction, it doesn’t mean that you will always find fiction in there. these days the most popular posts sometimes don’t have anything to do with fiction.
Which is quite sad.
I mean, I read something the other morning about Trump, whether you support the guy or not.
Why in the world should an article/essay whatever you want to call it, with him be under the fiction banner?
If I wanted to read about Trump, one would imagine that I would need to head over to the politics/news section, right?
I’m not saying what Author said is wrong or right for that matter. her post just shouldn’t have been found under fiction section.
Is it too much to ask for, that if a person is interested in fiction, then let that section be just that.
Fiction.
I’m here to learn, and learn as much as I can. you may find my piece full of mistakes, and that’s ok. This whole writing thing is new for me.
One thing i’m sure of is that Trump is no fiction writer. question is, why do we feel the need to include him and so may other topics/people that have no reason to be in this section.
Is it just to get more eyeballs?
Once we create a profile over here, we have to decide in which categories we want to be found in. i get that, and i’m sure, so do you.
People need to know how to find you.
But once we have written our latest piece/essay/post/story. Surely that should have a separate category so that it can go where it’s supposed to go.
When you go looking for let’s say humour, you should find exactly that.
Humour.
You have a good laugh and move onto the next one.
You shouldn’t end up reading about someone being depressed.
If we want this platform to be the best of the best, then we need to get the simple things right.
What do you think?
